Sony Ericsson C905 Silver Reviews

The Sony Ericsson C905 represents the next level of camera phone that we have all been waiting for. Since the introduction of the Nokia N95 the mobile phone market has seemed content to stay at the five megapixel barrier. Even the N96 remains at that level. But the Sony Ericsson C905 not only passes that barrier, it also stops, turns around and smashes it just because it wants to.

Before we get to the 8 megapixel camera, we should take a look around the exterior of the C905. It's a sleek slide phone that utilises a 2.4 inch QVGA TFT display that is covered with scratch resistant glass. The keypad on the handset will look familiar to anyone who has used a K800i, though thankfully on the C905 the buttons are slightly larger and easier to use. They are also totally even and don't have the tilt that the keys on the K800i used to have. In fact most of the buttons on the C905 are highly tactile and are highly responsive; this includes the two shortcut keys above the screen. The key on the left shows the last photo you have taken while the right hand key launches the image gallery. These keys also double up to open the shooting mode and the scene mode respectively. The whole build quality of the C905 is excellent and the handset has a really luxurious feel, for even more added convenience Sony Ericsson have included a volume rocker and additional camera keys on the side of the C905. These certainly make changing function from taking a call to taking a photo very easy.

This dedication to quality is continued throughout the whole handset. The sports lens cover for the camera is made of fine brushed metal and thankfully does not fall open in your pocket, unlike some earlier cyber shot models. Once the cover is slid downwards the xenon flash is revealed. Unlike some other high end handsets the C905 has a flash to match the camera so it will still produce great photos in even challenging lighting conditions. This brings us to the 8 megapixel camera, which is surely he main draw of the C905. It really does set a brand new standard in mobile phone cameras. If you were impressed by the N95 and N82, this will blow you away.

The C905 does have other very impressive features to boast about. The embedded GPS receiver will certainly receive applause with built in Google maps for mobile and wayfinder navigator 7. The C905 also has built in WiFi connectivity which offers a true internet browsing experience. The C905 will automatically pull in a list of the nearest hot spots and connecting to them only takes a single click. The C905 also has VOIP capability, although it remains to be seen if that makes it past the mobile phone networks. Outside of WiFi the C905 is also HSDPA compatible, which means it's pretty quick even without a hot spot. In addition to this the C905 also includes 160MB internal memory and an M2 memory card slot that is upgradeable up to 2GB.

The C905 promises to be a massive hit that really pushes the boundaries of what is possible for mobile phones. It manages to walk the tricky tightrope between form and function to deliver a breath taking user experiences. All of a sudden Nokia's N96 seems slightly less essential.
